On the Road to Climate Neutrality with Solar Energy
In light of the energy transition, VULKAN as an industrial company is striving to increasingly decarbonize its own energy supply. To this end, VULKAN has installed photovoltaic systems at various locations around the world, both in existing buildings and in new construction projects, which can cover a significant proportion of its own energy requirements.
VULKAN began installing the first photovoltaic system on company buildings at the production site in Herne in 2022. Since then, further systems have gradually been added on individual buildings. In spring 2025, the total output is expected to rise to more than 1,261 kWp.
“We have invested in the installation of photovoltaic systems in order to achieve climate neutrality in the long term, become more independent of the energy market and make sustainable cost savings. Once all these projects have been completed, we will be able to generate around 20 percent of our electricity requirements at the Herne site,” says Sebastian Meise, CEO of the VULKAN Group.
“Green” Buildings in Pune
VULKAN Technologies Pvt. Ltd, the Indian subsidiary of VULKAN, has always strived for continuous improvement and believes in business expansion in line with sustainable development. As part of this commitment, VULKAN Technologies Pvt. Ltd. has already taken various initiatives that contribute to greater sustainability in its day-to-day operations, including the installation of solar panels with a total capacity of 1,214 kWp. In fact, VULKAN India has already won two awards for its comprehensive overall concept of existing buildings and new construction measures on the factory premises in Pune, based on criteria such as site selection and planning, water, energy and material conservation, the quality of the indoor environment and health at the workplace, as well as innovation and design. The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), which is part of the Confederation of Indian Industry, has awarded the “IGBC Gold” rating to an existing building constructed in 2014-2015 as well as to a new building constructed on the factory premises.
“We are delighted that in an unprecedented team effort, we have been able to realize our vision of green buildings at our site and thus contribute to greater sustainability at VULKAN,” says Rajesh Mishra, Managing Director at VULKAN Technologies Pvt. Ltd.
