On the Path to the Maritime Energy Transition with Strong Partners

As a technology and market leader in the field of marine technology, VULKAN is also helping to shape the path to the maritime energy transition. Under the motto “We ensure that systems work better.” as a technology company, we are making our contribution to global decarbonization by entering the market for hybrid and electric drives and have already successfully implemented a wide variety of projects in this area - a major step that is in line with VULKAN's sustainable Company Policy and self-image as a system supplier and problem solver. For example, together with its Dutch partner Blokland Non Ferro, a supplier of heat exchangers, drive systems and related products for shipping and industry, VULKAN has taken on the construction of shaft lines for a series of all-electric passenger ferries.  

Already in 2019, VULKAN and Blokland realized that VULKAN's products and services and Blokland's shaft lines complement each other very well. Strengthened by the system expertise of VULKAN Benelux, the collaboration has been intensified over the years and extended to other products.  

Shaft Line for All-Electric Ferry from SFK mbH

One example of this cooperation was the construction of the complete shaft line for a passenger ferry operated by Schlepp- und Fährgesellschaft Kiel mbH with an electric dual drive. The 31.57 meter long and 8.1-meter-wide ship offers space for 300 passengers and is used in ferry service from Kiel. All components supplied by VULKAN and Blokland for this ship are designed to reduce vibrations and thus increase comfort on board.
