Field report: From student internship to management consultant
Dung Anh Tran graduated with a bachelor's degree in economics and subsequently completed his master's degree in supply chain management while working. He came to VULKAN via his compulsory student internship and stayed on. Today, he works as a management consultant in a permanent position with us.
My career at VULKAN
Through the recommendation of a friend who worked at VULKAN as a student trainee, I completed my six-month internship in purchasing at VULKAN in 2019. Starting with simpler administrative tasks such as creating purchase orders and maintaining material master data, to preparing and conducting supplier visits, to my first own projects such as procuring the photovoltaic system here at the site, I gained my first real professional experience in purchasing. The internship position turned into a year of working as a student trainee, which later resulted in a position as a parental leave replacement. Since February 2022, I am now working as an assistant to the managing director.
What I am currently doing at VULKAN
In my position as a management assistant, I get a close look at many business processes and all departments. I prepare and follow up on management meetings and accompany my boss, Sebastian Meise, COO (Chief Operations Officer)/CTO (Chief Technology Officer) of VULKAN, to various meetings. In addition, I prepare information, decision and presentation documents and assist Mr. Meise in an advisory capacity. Particularly with regard to the company's internal strategy implementation process, I liaise closely with managers from various departments and coordinate the planning, management and implementation of projects.
This is why I like working at VULKAN
I am glad that I got the chance to take over such a diversified and responsible job at VULKAN even with only little professional experience so far. VULKAN charmingly combines the advantages of a medium-sized family business and a global market and technology leader. I like the team spirit and the familiar character here at the Herne location as well as the internationality of the VULKAN Group and the many foreign contacts. In addition, VULKAN is an attractive employer, not least because of the modern working environment, flexible working hours and performance-related pay.
