Electric Vehicle Fleet is Powered by Our Own “Green” Electricity

The aim of conserving resources and reducing or avoiding environmental pollution as far as technically feasible and economically reasonable is firmly anchored in our Company Policy. In light of the energy transition and with the aim of contributing to climate protection, VULKAN has been gradually converting its vehicle fleet to hybrid and electric vehicles for several years now. At VULKAN Germany in Herne, the vehicle fleet is powered by electricity from the company's own photovoltaic system.

VULKAN Germany has a fleet of 64 vehicles. This includes 25 hybrid vehicles and one vehicle can be operated fully electrically. “This means that 40 percent of our fleet can be operated without fuel,” says Björn Peters, Head of Marketing/General Services, who manages the fleet at the Herne site.

VULKAN Germany initially installed twelve charging stations for electric vehicles in 2022 in order to be able to supply the VULKAN company vehicles on the company premises with electricity from its own photovoltaic system. “Due to the growing demand, three more were added in 2024. The installation of the charging infrastructure enables us to operate our fleet in an environmentally friendly and cost-saving manner,” says Björn Peters.

VULKAN began installing the first photovoltaic system on company buildings at the Herne site in 2022. Since then, further systems have gradually been added on individual buildings. An expansion by two further photovoltaic systems is planned for spring 2025. Once all these projects have been completed, we will be able to generate around 20 percent of the electricity consumed at the Herne site using photovoltaic systems.
